FAQs of a plumber in Cairns

  • What should I do if I have no hot water?

First, check your circuit box – the circuit may have tripped for some reason and flicking that switch may solve the problem.

If you’ve got gas hot water, check that you’ve still got gas in the bottle or that there’s no reason your supply would have been turned off.

Otherwise, give us a call – if we can’t diagnose it over the phone, we’ll come and have a look and give you a quote for any repairs or replacements you may need.

  • What should I do if I have a burst water pipe?

First, turn the water off at the meter – you don’t want that water bill to be any higher than necessary or to deal with flooding.

Next, give us a call and we’ll organise to come and get it sorted for you ASAP.

  • What should I do if my toilet is overflowing?

That’s not a great situation to be in but there’s no need to panic.  First you want to shut off the water with the valve behind the toilet.  Then your best bet is to clean up the water and give us a call.

  • My drains are smelly, what can I do?

There may be a lot of reasons why there is a nasty smell coming out of your drains.  One of the most common is due to a build up of bacteria in the pipes which smells like sulphur.

If this is the case, pouring half a cup of bleach or half a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar should do the trick.

If not, give us a call and we’ll work out what’s going on and solve the problem.

  • How can I prevent clogged drains?

There are lots of things that can cause drains to clog so here are a few ways to prevent clogged drains:

    • Don’t flush anything other than toilet paper

    • Brush your hair before you shower

    • Add a drain screen to prevent gunk clogging up pipes

    • Don’t pour oil or grease down the drain

    • Don’t put food scraps down the drain

    • Flush your kitchen drains with hot water regularly

    • Clean the drain with a drain cleaner regularly

    • Bathe pets outside rather than in your bathroom
